Although Jaime King has a masculine sounding first name, she is certainly a female, I can assure you that. Her beauty at her young age led her into modeling. We just can”t help it, can we? We all have an innate suspicion of models who become actors. We immediately feel that, otherwise talentless, they”ve been cast on their looks alone, that they have no real right to inhabit our screens. Whenever someone tries it, the jeers begin and those terrible four words are uttered: Cindy, Crawford, Fair and Game. Yet Halle Berry, a former model and, worse still, a Beauty Pageant winner, has risen above all that. Through a combination of the usual luck and, above all, hard work and persistence, she’’s made herself into a fine actress, an Emmy winner and the most welcome Oscar winner in recent years. And it has not been easy…
Halle Maria Berry was born on the 14th of August, 1968 (though some insist it was 1966), in Cleveland, Ohio. She was named after the town’’s Halle Building, which originally housed the Halle Brothers department store but is now an office block (it’’s also used in the Drew Carey Show). Her father, Jerome, an African American and a hospital attendant by trade, left when she was just four, so she and her elder sister Heidi were raised by their Caucasian, Liverpool-born mother, Judith, herself a nurse in a psychiatric ward. Jerome would return after four years but the violence he directed towards Judith and Heidi meant that he did not stay for long. Throughout her adult life, Halle Would have no contact with him at all, still being estranged when Jerome died in 2003.
Halle’’s first few years were spent in a black neighbourhood of Cleveland. Here her fair complexion made her stand out, but not as much as she did when her mother moved them out of the inner-city to a mainly white suburb. Now, a little older and in this conservative milieu, her “difference” was not so readily tolerated. “I”m black,” she said later. “I realised very early in my life that I wasn”t going to be this mulatto stuck in the middle, not knowing if I”m black or white”.
To overcome these racial difficulties, Halle threw herself into school activities at Bedford High and tried to make friends. She did well. She was in the Honour Society, a cheerleader, class president, and an editor on the school newspaper. And, naturally, she was Prom Queen. At least, she was joint Prom Queen. Having won outright, she was accused of voting irregularities and (guess what?) forced to share her title with a WASP.

This highly attractive, up-and-coming blonde actress has distinguished herself in co-starring roles in the 1996 ABC miniseries “Larry McMurtry’’s Dead Man’’s Walk” and as the girlfriend of a young man who drops out of college in favor of the boating life in the “Hallmark Hall of Fame” TV-movie “Calm at Sunset” (CBS, 1996). Gretchen Mol had some stage training before breaking into TV and film. After displaying her comedic talents in a 1996 episode of the ABC sitcom “Spin City”, she was the newlywed wife of Mike McGlone in one segment of HBO’’s omnibus “Subway Stories” (1997).\r\n\r\nMol had made her feature acting debut as one of the phone sex operators in Spike Lee’’s “Girl 6″ and offered a fine portrait as the outsider girlfriend of a gangster in Abel Ferrara’’s “The Funeral” (both 1996). She played one of Neal Cassady’’s doomed girlfriends in “The Last Time I Committed Suicide” (1996, which aired on Cinemax in 1997 before its theatrical release). Mol was also the girlfriend of Michael Madsen in a small role in “Donnie Brasco” (1997) before landing a pivotal role alongside Martha Plimpton, Jude Law and Brenda Blethyn in the love story “Music From Another Room” (1998). Later that year, Mol also graced “Rounders”, as Matt Damon’’s love interest, and Woody Allen’’s “Celebrity”, playing Leonardo DiCaprio’’s girlfriend.\r\n\r\nIn 1999, Mol appeared in half a dozen films, including Woody Allen’’s “Sweet and Lowdown” and “Cradle Will Rock,” a drama about the politics of art in the 1930′’s, directed by Tim Robbins. While continuing to appear in small films and TV movies for the next couple years, Mol got her first shot on a network series in 2002 when she was cast in the FOX ensemble drama “Girl’’s Club,” a legal drama about three female lawyers who live together in San Francisco. Unfortunately, her shot lasted little over a week, as the network canceled the show. After a small role in the remake “Get Carter” (2000) and a larger part in the straight-to-video thriller “Attraction” (2001), Mol co-starred in Neil LaBute’s disappointing “The Shape of Things” (2003). She was then set to star in “The Notorious Bettie Page” (2006), playing the famed 1950s pin-up girl who became one of the first sex icons in America, only to become a target of a major Senate investigation because of her famous bondage photos.

After high school, Gabrielle attended college at University of Nebraska, where she played on the soccer team; and then later transferred to Cuesta College. Eventually she ended up at UCLA. Her first audition/job was landed without any headshots, on “Saved by the Bell” (1989). A Calgary native who landed her first modeling job at the tender age of seven, it was a mere four years later that Cuthbert instinctively knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her days in front of the lens. Following an appearance in the 1997 feature Dancing on the Moon, Cuthbert landed a job as a field correspondent for the acclaimed Canadian television series Popular Mechanics for Kids, and her reporting proved so effective that she caught the attention of first lady Hillary Clinton, who invited Cuthbert to Washington for a meeting.
Though she spent the majority of her youth in Montreal, Cuthbert moved to Los Angeles at age 17 in order to pursue an acting career. Featured roles as a reluctant pilot in Airspeed (1998) and a time traveling teen in Time at the Top (1999) were soon to follow, and by the time Cuthbert joined the cast of Nickelodeon’’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? in 1999, it was obvious that her talent was growing. On the heels of 24, Cuthbert took a supporting role in the comedy Old School before appearing in the subsequent romantic comedies Love Actually (2003) and The Girl Next Door (2004), the latter of which found her taking the lead as an ex-porn star who becomes the object of affection to a lonely suburban boy unaware of her past.

Dominique Swain Pics & Biography
An actress who won a significant dose of notoriety for her title role in Adrian Lyne’’s 1997 adaptation of Lolita, Dominique Swain had the dubious honor of being caught up in the scandal of her feature film debut. Thanks to the content of the film — which, unlike Stanley Kubrick’’s earlier version of Nabokov’’s novel, emphasized its more explicitly sexual aspects — Lolita had great difficulty finding a U.S. distributor and was effectively consigned to video store shelves. However, many of the critics who did see the film were impressed with Swain’’s performance, remarking that she more than held her own opposite such seasoned costars as Jeremy Irons and Melanie Griffith.
Born, according to legend, in the back of her father’’s Datsun somewhere on the Santa Monica Freeway on August 12, 1980, Swain grew up with three sisters (one of whom, Chelsea, is also an actress) in Malibu. Her interest in acting led to a role as a stunt double in The Good Son and an audition for the lead in Lolita; the fledgling actress was eventually chosen for the part by director Lyne over 2,500 hopefuls. Following her work in the 1997 film, Swain appeared as the rebellious daughter of John Travolta and Joan Allen in John Woo’’s Face/Off later that same year, and then starred as the eponymous heroine of Girl (1998), a coming-of-age drama about a spoiled high school student trying to make sense of sex.
Swain’’s growing popularity was more than adequately demonstrated in 2000, when she was involved in no less than eight screen projects. Included amongst them were The Smokers, in which the actress played one of a trio of teens who want revenge on their boyfriends, and Intern, which cast her in the title role of an intern who becomes the head of a fashion magazine.
