Born on February 17 1972, in Downers Grove, Illinois, Denise Lee Richards moved to Oceanside, California, with her younger sister, her father, Irv, and mother, Joni, who owned a string of coffee shops called Jitters, when she was 15 years old.

In 1989, Denise went on to graduate from El Camino High School in Oceanside. After completing high school, she began modeling in Paris, Tokyo and New York, and became the makeup girl for Bonne Bell cosmetics.

But despite her achieved fame via modeling, Denise wanted more and began attempting her hand at acting by trying out for various parts in television shows and movies.

Acting came easily for Denise and she found much success from the get go. Her first appearances took place on weekly television shows such as Life Goes On (1990), Saved by the Bell, Married… with Children (both in 1991), Eerie, Indiana, Beverly Hills: 90210, (both in 1992), Seinfeld (1993).

Her stint on Seinfeld catapulted her into the limelight. In the episode, Denise played the 15-year-old daughter of the NBC executive that’’s about to cut a deal with George (Jason Alexander) and Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), but because they got caught looking down her blouse, the deal was lost.

After having a recurring role on Aaron Spelling’’s TV nighttime soap, Melrose Place, in 1992, Denise starred in a film entitled Tammy and the T-Rex and the made-for-TV movie 919 Fifth Avenue in 1994.

After that, in 1996, while Denise had another recurring role on television’’s Spin City, starring Michael J. Fox, Denise starred in other forgettable TV movies including In The Blink of An Eye and Pier 66. Then in 1997, after having starred in the big screen movie Nowhere, which tanked, Denise co-starred in the popular hit film Starship Troopers.

While Denise’’s star was hot, Denise starred in, Wild Things (1998), opposite Neve Campbell and Matt Dillon. Her sexy role in the film, not to mention her threesome scene, transformed Denise into one of the most sought after celebrities in Hollywood.

In 1999, Denise starred in the appropriately titled film, Drop Dead Gorgeous, but the film didn”t see the same critical success in theaters that her two previous films did. But that same year, Denise did her duty as a Bond girl starring opposite Pierce Brosnan in The World Is Not Enough.

In 2001, Denise starred in more forgettable movies: Valentine and Good Advice (which is where she met her future husband Charlie Sheen, whom she married the following year in June). Then, in 2002, after the movie Empire, co-starring John Leguizamo, flopped at the box office, Denise starred in the surprise hit comedy of the year, Undercover Brother.

Also in 2002, Denise teamed up with talented buddies Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the movie The Third Wheel and also starred in You Stupid Man.

In 2003, Denise moved on to the romantic comedy Love, Actually, alongside Keira Knightley and Hugh Grant, then the horror-flick comedy Scary Movie 3.

In March 2004, Big and her husband Charlie Sheen welcomed their daughter, Sam, into the world.

After a long break from her acting career Moore returned to the screen as a former member of Charlie’’s Angels in the film Charlie’’s Angels 2: Full Throttle. She is rumored to be in a romantic relationship with actor Ashton Kutcher, who is 15 years younger than her. Both would eventually spoof about the public’’s fascination with their age difference during the monologue on the March 19, 2005 episode of Saturday Night Live. Kutcher, who served as guest host, brought Moore on stage while Moore was made up to appear like a very eldery woman, who constantly babied Kutcher.

She has been married and divorced twice. Her first marriage was to musician Freddy Moore who Moore married when she was 18 years old. She has three daughters from her marriage to Bruce Willis: Rumer Glenn, Scout LaRue, and Tallulah Belle. Enjoying great success in music, film, television and the stage, Dean Martin was less an entertainer than an icon, the eternal essence of cool. A member of the legendary Rat Pack, he lived and died the high life of booze, broads and bright lights, always projecting a sense of utter detachment and serenity; along with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and the other chosen few who breathed the same rarefied air, Martin — highball and cigarette always firmly in hand — embodied the glorious excess of a world long gone, a world without rules or consequences. Throughout it all, he remained just outside the radar of understanding, the most distant star in the firmament; as his biographer Nick Tosches once noted, Martin was what the Italians called a menefreghista — “one who simply does not give a f.”

Dino Paul Crocetti was born on June 7, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio; the son of an immigrant barber, he spoke only Italian until the age of five, and at school was the target of much ridicule for his broken English. He ultimately quit school at the age of 16, going to work in the steel mills; as a boxer named Kid Crochet, he also fought a handful of amateur bouts, and later delivered bootleg liquor. After landing a job as a croupier in a local speakeasy, he made his first connections with the underworld, bringing him into contact with club owners all over the Midwest; initially rechristening himself Dean Martini, he had a nose job and set out to become a crooner, modeling himself after his acknowledged idol, Bing Crosby. Hired by bandleader Sammy Watkins, he dropped the second “i” from his stage name and eventually enjoyed minor success on the New York club circuit, winning over audiences with his loose, mellow vocal style.

Despite his good looks and easygoing charm, Martin’’s early years as an entertainer were largely unsuccessful. In 1946 — the year he issued his first single, “Which Way Did My Heart Go?” — he first met another struggling performer, a comic named Jerry Lewis; later that year, while Lewis was playing Atlantic City’’s 500 Club, another act abruptly quit the show, and the comedian suggested Martin to fill the void. Initially the two performed separately, but one night they threw out their routines and teamed onstage, a Mutt-and-Jeff combo whose wildly improvisational comedy quickly made them a star attraction along the Boardwalk. Within months, Martin and Lewis” salaries rocketed from 350 to 5000 a week, and by the end of the 1940s they were the most popular comedy duo in the nation. In 1949, they made their film debut in My Friend Irma, and their supporting work proved so popular with audiences that their roles were significantly expanded for the sequel, the following year’’s My Friend Irma Goes West.

With 1951′’s At War with the Army, Martin and Lewis earned their first star billing. The picture established the basic formula of all of their subsequent movie work, with Martin the suave straight man forced to suffer the bizarre antics of the manic fool Lewis. Critics often loathed the duo, but audiences couldn”t get enough — in all, they headlined 13 comedies for Paramount, among them 1952′’s Jumping Jacks, 1953′’s Scared Stiff and 1955′’s Artists and Models, a superior effort directed by Frank Tashlin. For 1956′’s Hollywood or Bust, Tashlin was again in the director’’s seat, but the movie was the team’’s last; after Martin and Lewis” relationship soured to the point where they were no longer even speaking to one another, they announced their breakup following the conclusion of their July 25, 1956 performance at the Copacabana, which celebrated to the day the tenth anniversary of their first show.

While most onlookers predicted continued superstardom for Lewis, the general consensus was that Martin would falter as a solo act; after all, outside of the 1953 smash “That’’s Amore,” his solo singing career had never quite hit its stride, and in light of the continued ascendancy of rock roll, his future looked dim. After suffering a failure with Ten Thousand Bedrooms, Martin’’s next move was to appear in the 1958 drama The Young Lions, starring alongside Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando; that same year he also hosted The Dean Martin Show, the first of his color specials for NBC television. Both projects were successful, as were his live appearances at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas; in particular, The Young Lions proved him a highly capable dramatic actor. Combined with another hit single, “Volare,” Martin was everywhere that year, and with the continued success of his many TV specials, he effectively conquered movies, music, television and the stage all at the same time — a claim no other entertainer, not even Sinatra, could make.

Even at the peak of his fame, however, Martin remained strangely contemptuous of stardom; for a man whose presence in the public eye was almost constant, he was utterly elusive, beyond the realm of mortal understanding. As his celebrity and power grew, he slipped even further away: in early 1959, his movie with Sinatra, Some Came Running, hit theaters, and with it came the dawning of the Rat Pack. Together, Sinatra and Martin — in tandem with their acolytes Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop and Shirley MacLaine — set new standards of celebrity hipsterdom, becoming avatars of the good life; flexing their muscle not only in show business but also in politics — their ties to John F. Kennedy, Lawford’’s brother-in-law and an honorary Rat Packer code-named “Chicky Baby,” are now legend — they were the new American gods, and Las Vegas was their Mount Olympus.

Martin — who continued to impress critics in films like the 1959 Howard Hawks classic Rio Bravo — was Sinatra’’s right-hand man, the drunkest and most enigmatic member of the Rat Pack (so named in homage to the Holmby Hills Rat Pack, a bygone drinking circle that had once gathered around Humphrey Bogart); his allegiance to Sinatra was total, and Martin even left his longtime label Capitol to record for and financially back Sinatra’’s own Reprise imprint. In 1960, the Rat Pack starred in Ocean’’s Eleven, filming in Las Vegas during the day and then taking over the Sands each night; two years later, they reconvened for Sergeants 3. However, in late 1963 — while filming the third Rat Pack opus, Robin and the Seven Hoods — the news came that Kennedy had been assassinated; in effect, as America struggled to pick up the pieces, the Rat Pack’’s reign was over. With Vietnam and the civil rights movement looming on the horizon, there was no longer room for the boozy, happy-go-lucky lifestyle of before — the fun was truly over.

Yet somehow Martin forged on; in 1964, at the peak of Beatlemania, he knocked the Fab Four out of the top spot on the charts with his single “Everybody Loves Somebody,” and that same year starred in Billy Wilder’’s acrid Kiss Me, Stupid, a film which crystallized his persona as the lecherous but lovable lush. In 1965, after years of overtures from NBC, Martin finally agreed to host his own weekly variety series; The Dean Martin Show was an enormous hit, running for nine seasons before later spawning a number of hit Celebrity Roast specials during the 1970s. In films, he also remained successful, starring in a series of spy spoofs as secret agent Matt Helm. However, by the late ”70s, Martin’’s health began to fail, and his career was primarily confined to casino club stages; in 1987, his son Dean Paul died in an airplane crash, a blow from which he never recovered. After bailing out of a 1988 reunion tour with Sinatra and Davis, Martin spent his final years in solitude; he died on Christmas Day, 1995.

‘”Diamond” David Lee Roth. Rock ”n” Roll frontman. Kung Fu sage. Living, breathing action figure. As the quarterback for legendary bad boy rock band Van Halen in their heyday, a successful solo artist, music video pioneer, best selling author, and world traveler, “Diamond” David Lee Roth has led the life that most folks only dream of and has gone places most people will never go, even in their wildest dreams.

“I”ve been places with my face you wouldn”t go to with a pistol,” says the Master Blaster himself. And he’’s right.

Roth’’s unique combination of classic pop stagecraft, burlesque humor and startling wit has made him one of the most famous — and infamous — names in Rock ”n” Roll. Since his 1977 debut, Roth has become one of the most beloved characters in popular music to grace the stage and screen.

Born in Indiana farm country, Roth spent his early childhood shuttling between the great outdoors and living with his famous uncle, Manny Roth, in New York’’s Greenwich village during the early ”60s. Living over the Café Wha? nightclub, Dave’’s musical education began with the likes of Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce.

This education in life fueled his lyrics and Dave made one helluva formidable student. By the time he hit his mid-20s, Dave was a world-class frontman with platinum albums under his black belt from his work with his high school buddies, Van Halen. With an arsenal of massive hits (”Jump,” “Panama,” “Hot For Teacher,” “Runnin” With The Devil,” “Dance The Night Away,” and many more), Van Halen took over the world and knocked Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith out of the top-band-in-the-world spot by the late-”70s.

Counting himself as a “unique House blend of the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, Bruce Lee, and the Rolling Stones,” Dave soon became one of the most imitated vocalists since Elvis in both his look and sound. His subsequent solo career also yielded a truckload of hits, including “Yankee Rose,” “Goin” Crazy,” “Just a Gigolo/I Ain”t Got Nobody,” “California Girls,” “A Little Ain”t Enough,” and so on, as he veered from the arena hard rock he was known for to smoky blues, Las Vegas show tunes and dance floor rhythms, touring 22 countries in the process.

Now an accomplished outdoorsman and climber, Roth has led many trips into the Himalayas, New Guinea, the Amazon, and the South Pacific. A devout practitioner of classic martial arts since the age of 12, Roth also travels and teaches at seminars around the world in between projects.

His music has become a staple of FM radio, TV commercials, movie soundtracks and sporting events everywhere; his blonde-maned, steel-chested image has become the definition of what a hard rock frontman strives to look like; and his sunny, beaming personality has become almost as legendary as his whiskey-soaked, bluesy wail. Hot on the heels of his recent stint as a guest DJ at radio stations across the country and as a frequent guest on the Howard Stern Show, the Diamond One is turning to acting and starting to flex his thespian chops. His MTV Dave-TV spots back in the day paved the way for his recent VH-1 special (David Lee Roth - VH1 Classic 4th of July Christmas Special) and commentator role (The Greatest: 50 Greatest Funny Moments In Music, The Greatest: 40 Greatest Celebrity Feuds, I Love The 70s: 1970, etc.), which in turn lead to Dave getting the thespian bug. “Mom says I”m going to look like Lee Marvin in 10 years whether I”m in movies or not,” Dave laughs. “So I might as well get after it!”

Dave is also turning his attention to the written page with a follow-up to his best selling autobiography Crazy From the Heat. In the tome, Roth unchained his life story and career in full gory detail with the same wise-ass, carnal force and hedonistic abandon that has flavored his music through his platinum selling career. His next book, The Tao of Dave: Rock ”n” Roll Philosophy with David Lee Roth, will find the self-proclaimed toastmaster of the immoral majority dispensing knowledge, wisdom, action packed anecdotes and knock-you-on-your-ass chili recipes amidst a collection of personal artwork and photos in what is sure to be the most off-the-hook philosophy book ever written.

Music? Books? Acting? To say he’’s lead a colorful life in an understatement. Yet for Diamond Dave, the adventure is hardly over, and the party has just begun.

“I simply have to be creative all the time,” admits Dave. “I have to create new things. I never have writers block. You wanna figure out something to shoot? This is not an issue. You want some lyrics? This is not a problem. All of the ideas are constant. If nothing else, I am aware of what’’s going on around me. When gauging his chances of success on the Big Screen, one name strikes fear into the hearts of David Duchovny fans. No, not The Smoking Man. Rather, it’’s David Caruso - a big TV star who failed wretchedly in a crossover attempt. Duchovny himself, typically, considers the comparison lightly and intelligently. He knows that Caruso, star of NYPD Blue, did not spend long cementing his reputation on TV, while he himself has completed seven seasons of The X-Files. He knows that, as a hitter, he’’s heavier. And he knows his latest movie vehicle, Evolution, in which he stars alongside Julianne Moore, is close enough in theme and spirit to his TV series to work as a stepping-stone to more varied projects. He’’s a clever man, this Duchovny.

He was born David William Duchovny on August 7th, 1960, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. His father was Brooklyn-born Amram Ducovny (a man who clearly has no need of extra Hs), a playwright who also worked as publicist for the American Jewish Committee. His mother, Margaret, was a Lutheran Scot, and a teacher. With that heritage, Duchovny jokes, you shouldn”t ask him for money. He also says it gave him a “Protestant work ethic combined with Jewish guilt and introspection”. He has an older brother, Daniel, and a younger sister, Laurie.

Daryl Christine Hannah was born December 3rd, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, she was diagnosed as almost autistic. According to her sister, actress Page Hannah, Daryl was a “very private, rather dreamy person with a “Please Knock” sign on the door and parakeets and hamsters running loose inside.”

Daryl has suffered from insomnia since a very early age, which encouraged her to escape into the world of movies as a young girl.

Her parents divorced when she was in the first grade. After they remarried, Daryl was eventually one of eight children (including half-siblings and step-siblings), consisting of seven girls and a brother, Don. Her uncle, Haskell Wexler, was a filmmaker who won two Oscars for his work as a cinematographer.

In high school, Daryl played soccer on the boys” team because there was no soccer team for girls. Before deciding to pursue acting, she practiced ballet with Maria Tallchief. She then switched to drama, studying at Chicago’’s Goodman Theater.

Hannah made her screen debut in the 1978 Brian De Palma thriller The Fury, when she was just 17. It was only a small part, but it gave her the incentive to further her dramatic training. She studied with Stella Adler and graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Following her graduation, she played Kim Basinger’’s younger sister in 1981′’s Hard Country. In 1982, she co-starred in Summer Lovers, but it was another film from the same year that made audiences sit up and take notice of the young actress. As Pris, the seductive, pleasure-model “replicant” in Ridley Scott’’s futuristic detective story Blade Runner, Hannah was perfectly cast as the statuesque, sexy android.

Also in 1982, Daryl began a ten-year, on-again, off-again relationship with singer/songwriter Jackson Browne. During this period, she occasionally played keyboards and sang backup with his band in the studio and on stage. \r\n\r\nIf people took notice of her for her supporting role as Pris, then it’’s fair to say that her next role made her a star. Appearing opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’’s 1984 romantic comedy Splash, Hannah demonstrated her versatility and comedic flair as Madison the mermaid.

Appearances in some more films that year solidified her status as a rising new talent: She played a student who gets involved with a motorcycle riding loner in Reckless, and Mickey Rourke’’s girlfriend in The Pope of Greenwich Village. Further pointing to her potential as a rising actress, Hannah was selected as one of 12 “Promising New Actors of 1984″ in John Willis” Screen World.

Despite her sudden popularity and acclaim, Hannah’’s next few film appearances didn”t ignite audiences or critics alike. In 1986′’s The Clan of the Cave Bear, she portrayed a Cro-Magnon cavegirl, but few people actually saw the film. She followed this up by playing a performance artist in the comedy Legal Eagles, co-starring Robert Redford, and then as an interior designer in Oliver Stone’’s 1987′’s critically-acclaimed Wall Street.

Many critics felt that her best performance since Splash came when she portrayed the title role in the 1987 romantic comedy Roxanne, starring Steve Martin in a contemporary retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. The following year she was featured alongside acting legend Peter O”toole in High Spirits, where she played a lonely ghost.

Hannah was teamed with some big-name actresses in 1989′’s Steel Magnolias and was highly praised for her portrayal of a Southern hairdresser. She also got to work with Woody Allen that same year, appearing in Crimes and Misdemeanors.

1989 was also the year Daryl Hannah made headlines regarding her new love interest. She began a serious relationship with John F. Kennedy, Jr., whom she dated on and off until 1994. The couple never wed, allegedly due to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis” disapproval of her son marrying an actress.

Hannah next portrayed a fragile mental patient in the 1990 black comedy Crazy People. In 1991′’s At Play in the Fields of the Lord, she played a missionary’’s wife. She returned to comedy, as Chevy Chase’’s mixed-up love interest in 1992′’s Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

Daryl Hannah’’s next project was a giant achievement for the actress (literally); she co-produced and starred in the title role of the made-for-TV film Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman in 1993. She also played Jack Lemmon’’s daughter in Grumpy Old Men that same year.

The following year, she was honored at the Berlin International Film Festival. Hannah wrote, produced and directed The Last Supper, and received the Jury Award for Best Short. She revised her role as Jack Lemmon’’s daughter in the sequel Grumpier Old Men and co-starred in the drama The Ties That Bind, both in 1995.

Daryl Hannah played an adult film actress trying to break into legitimate films in 1997′’s The Last Days of Frankie the Fly, co-starring Dennis Hopper and Kiefer Sutherland. In Robert Altman’’s The Gingerbread Man, she was given the opportunity to really act again, portraying a mentally off-center housewife.

Says Lil’ Jon of the newly-formed genre, “Crunk & B songs are R&B songs that get you crunk. They make you wanna wild out. [‘Goodies’] is a female empowerment record. The female has the power. The female is in control on this song. This is one of those records for the ladies.”

“I’m so happy I wrote ‘Goodies’,” Ciara enthuses. “I pray everybody gets it the way they’re supposed to.” In the hook, Ciara warns, “If you’re looking for the goodies keep on looking ‘cause they stay in the jar.” “I think we all run across this problem,” she explains. “A guy thinks you’re gonna be with him because he’s got the iced out chain, he’s popular and all that. But that ain’t it. That ain’t gonna make me give you my number and that’s definitely not gonna make me go home with you. It’s the truth.”

Jon says he was impressed by Ciara’s approach to the song, which she co-wrote with “Yeah” songwriter Sean Garrett. “She did an excellent job on it,” says Jon. “With this record, it’s the way she rides over the track, the way she freaks the beat and the stuff that she says to connect her with other women. She’s saying stuff that women can relate to. Guys are always trying to get some from a girl and she’s like you can’t have it. That’s what makes her stand out and this is one of those records with that undeniable energy where as soon as the beat comes on it catches you and makes you move. You can’t sit still when that song comes on. Crunk music, you can’t fake because it’s all about the energy. It’s gotta be real.”\r\n\r\nAnd Ciara is as real as they come. Her self-titled Sho’ Nuff/LaFace/Zomba Label Group debut is a heaping dose of real life issues conveyed through everyday language and extraordinary production and vocal delivery. The album is a complete work of art and a masterful mixture of messages for the young and not so young.

On “Thugstyle,” a song she wrote with songwriter Johnta Austin (Toni Braxton, Aaliyah) Ciara displays her true ‘round the way girl’ nature. “It’s kinda how a guy would talk to a female, always spittin’ game,” she explains. “To me, it’s a little slick. It’s just a fun record. Everyone loves to sing along with it.”

“Looking at You” and “Pick up the Phone” with their groove-heavy tracks and sassy vocals, are signature Ciara, who says the latter, written and produced by Austin and Jazze Pha, talks about something that “everybody goes through.” “I love this record because it’s so real. I say, ‘You know it would be nice if you could call somebody and let somebody know that you’re alright….I know you see me on the caller I.D. so pick up the p-h-o-n-e.’”

The slow and sweet “And I,” which Ciara did with producer Adonis, is about “loving someone for who they are and not what they have.” And “Ooh Baby,” written by Sean Garrett and Keri Hilson (Reuben Studdard, 3LW) is about good old-fashioned infatuation. “I’m just really into this guy,” Ciara explains, in character. “I consider myself a ‘round-the-way girl, down to earth and basically the kind of guy I like is like this guy who pulls up in the F-150 pickup with the crazy banging system. He’s a ‘round-the-way dude, kinda ‘hood. But I’m like really into him.”

With its easy-to-relate-to subject matter, the album is listener-friendly and accessible to anyone who knows even the slightest bit about ‘keeping it real.’ “The songs are very catchy,” says Ciara. “They’re for all demographics, all age ranges….They’re not as personal as I want to be. I’d rather be more personal on the second album, once I grow a little more.”

Considering the short time that she’s been in the music business – about three years – Ciara has grown plenty. She admits that she’s a bit more mature than the average teenager. “Throughout life I’ve experienced a lot more than the typical 18 year old has. And being in this industry makes you develop more quickly than a typical child would. You mature faster.” But much of Ciara’s growth and maturity come from her determination to pursue her dreams. “I remember watching Destiny’s Child perform on TV one day. That’s when I made up my mind: ‘Hey I wanna do this.’ I watched my peers around me and they were worried about who’s wearing what, going to school, trying to talk to somebody and I was like ‘I’m trying to be somebody. What can I do to get there as soon as possible?’”

Ciara set her sights on her dream and went after it. “I wrote down on paper that I had a goal to be a professional singer and I wanna be there soon….I had to sacrifice a lotta things and I think that was the key thing to get me there. I cut out going to the movies, I cut out hanging with my friends, I actually told some of my friends ‘This month we’re not gonna hang out or talk on the phone.’ I don’t have too many friends anyway – less is better for me. I cut out the boyfriend – actually I had my heart broken so I was really like, ‘I’m ‘bout to do this. I’m ‘bout to be on top.’”

From there, things moved swiftly: She joined a girl group, left the group to go solo, nabbed a publishing deal and eventually hooked up with Jazze Pha, whom she refers to as her “music soul mate.” “God really put him in my life for a reason,” she says. “Our vibe is incredible.”

And now Ciara is ready to share her vibe with the rest of the world, but “It’s not just about penning clever lyrics and singing and dancing to a banging track,” she says. “My goal is to deliver a positive message and let people know they’re not the only one going through things….I’ve been blessed to be able to counsel my peers. I’m here to deliver a message and I think the impression that you make is very important. I don’t wanna write records just to write. I wanna have a message to everything that I write. That gives you longevity.”

The tomboyish Kate who can hang with the guys with ease on “The Drew Carey Show” (a role she played from 1995-2002), Christa Miller herself was more comfortable with athletics than with powder puffs while in high school. Still, she grew into a lithe and pretty model, and moved into acting with an episode of the CBS series “Kate & Allie” in 1989. Although her aunt, Susan Saint James, played Kate, Saint James was unaware that Miller had auditioned until after she won the role. Miller’’s mother was the model Bonnie Trompeter and as a child Miller appeared in print ads with her. By the time she was four, she had appeared on the cover of Redbook and in a mother-daughter Ivory Soap ad. Her childhood modeling was curtailed, however, after an operation for a benign bone tumor. Miller recovered completely and became a high school athlete. After high school, Miller followed briefly in her mother’’s footsteps as a model before enrolling in acting lessons. When she moved to Los Angeles in 1990, she abandoned modeling.

Miller began to land acting jobs, like the 1992 HBO movie “Stepfather III”, episodes of NBC’’s hit “Seinfeld”, and a minor role in the TV-movie “A Friend to Die For” (NBC, 1994). In 1999, she had major supporting roles in the independent films “The Operator” (as the long-suffering wife of sleazy lawyer) and “Smiling Fish and Goat on Fire” (as a post office employee involved with an aspiring actor).

Miller married sit-com writer-producer Bill Lawrence, the co-creator of “Spin City,” in 1999 and eventually left the security of her cozy “Drew Carey” gig in 2002 after Lawrence created a recurring role for her in his latest hit series, the hospital sit-com “Scrubs” (NBC, 2001- ). After primarily providing straight lines and supportive girlfriend shtick on her previous series, Miller was allowed to adroitly break type as the acid-tounged harridan Jordan Sullivan, the former wife of Dr. Cox (series regular John C. McGinley) and a hospital board member who takes pleasure in disrupting the lives of the staff.

It’’s a common complaint amongst actresses who started out as models or beauty queens that no one takes them seriously. They”re seen, they believe, merely as eye candy, girlfriend material, lacking the talent to take on the meatier female roles. Many - the more bloody-minded among them - rebel against this stereotyping, work hard to widen their scope, and eventually succeed in earning their peers” respect. Both movies were raw, disturbing and emotionally truthful, but of the two actresses it was Theron who went furthest. As the serial killer Aileen Wuornos, she left her looks behind entirely, wholly inhabited her character. When her performance was compared to that of Robert De Niro in Raging Bull, it could not be denied that this beauty was far more than just a looker.

Theron was born on the 7th of August, 1975, and grew up on a farm outside of Benoni, a town some 25 kilometres east of Johannesburg. She was named after her father, Charles. Charles was of French descent, while her mother Gerda hailed from German stock - both parents, though, were Afrikaans, born and raised in South Africa. Afrikaans would be Charlize’’s first language, English her second, and she”d pick up smatterings from the 26 ethnic groups that provided workers for the farm and the road construction business run by Gerda. It’’s testament to Theron’’s abilities that she would find worldwide success by mastering a third language - American.
