This highly attractive, up-and-coming blonde actress has distinguished herself in co-starring roles in the 1996 ABC miniseries “Larry McMurtry’’s Dead Man’’s Walk” and as the girlfriend of a young man who drops out of college in favor of the boating life in the “Hallmark Hall of Fame” TV-movie “Calm at Sunset” (CBS, 1996). Gretchen Mol had some stage training before breaking into TV and film. After displaying her comedic talents in a 1996 episode of the ABC sitcom “Spin City”, she was the newlywed wife of Mike McGlone in one segment of HBO’’s omnibus “Subway Stories” (1997).\r\n\r\nMol had made her feature acting debut as one of the phone sex operators in Spike Lee’’s “Girl 6″ and offered a fine portrait as the outsider girlfriend of a gangster in Abel Ferrara’’s “The Funeral” (both 1996). She played one of Neal Cassady’’s doomed girlfriends in “The Last Time I Committed Suicide” (1996, which aired on Cinemax in 1997 before its theatrical release). Mol was also the girlfriend of Michael Madsen in a small role in “Donnie Brasco” (1997) before landing a pivotal role alongside Martha Plimpton, Jude Law and Brenda Blethyn in the love story “Music From Another Room” (1998). Later that year, Mol also graced “Rounders”, as Matt Damon’’s love interest, and Woody Allen’’s “Celebrity”, playing Leonardo DiCaprio’’s girlfriend.\r\n\r\nIn 1999, Mol appeared in half a dozen films, including Woody Allen’’s “Sweet and Lowdown” and “Cradle Will Rock,” a drama about the politics of art in the 1930′’s, directed by Tim Robbins. While continuing to appear in small films and TV movies for the next couple years, Mol got her first shot on a network series in 2002 when she was cast in the FOX ensemble drama “Girl’’s Club,” a legal drama about three female lawyers who live together in San Francisco. Unfortunately, her shot lasted little over a week, as the network canceled the show. After a small role in the remake “Get Carter” (2000) and a larger part in the straight-to-video thriller “Attraction” (2001), Mol co-starred in Neil LaBute’s disappointing “The Shape of Things” (2003). She was then set to star in “The Notorious Bettie Page” (2006), playing the famed 1950s pin-up girl who became one of the first sex icons in America, only to become a target of a major Senate investigation because of her famous bondage photos.
